Everyone starts somewhere, and I am no different.
My name is Kevin and let me begin by welcoming you to Norsemen Nutrition and saying your being here means you are taking the first steps towards changing your life. As a baseball player I never had to think about staying healthy; it just happened. When I left the game, my body needed to find a new path to keep fit. But I ended up going the wrong way. I ate pretty much whatever was in front of me, and rarely anything green (unless it was called a Shamrock Shake). On top of that, I was drinking regularly and making poor decisions. Over the course of 3 years, I put on 90 pounds.
Then one morning I woke up and was horrified by what I saw looking back at me in the mirror: a miserable, out-of-shape young man. I needed a change. I wanted a change. But I was clueless about what to do. I began by doing what most people do: I bought a gym membership. Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: Overweight guy walks into a gym and has no idea how to do anything…that was me.
I began researching online and learning about nutrition and healthy eating. Incorporating what I was learning into my daily routine, I started to see some progress. In just three months, I went from 260lbs. to 230 lbs. This was the only beginning; my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Over the course of her treatment, she developed numerous health problems, one of which was weight gain. When told that she would struggle to lose the weight she had gained, my mom came to me and asked me to help her reach her goal. Of course, I said yes! But I was afraid my knowledge would prove insufficient. So, I began researching for hours on end, learning exactly when to eat, how to eat, why to eat, etc., and testing everything on myself first. Doing this helped me learn all the dos and don’ts which I am constantly learning; I learned the proper ways to create a meal plan, the importance of meal prepping, and ultimately crafted what has become the Norsemen way for the rest of my life. I wound up losing a drastic amount of weight, getting as low as 170 lbs.
My life would continue to change. I went back to college and finished my degree in Business Administration. I completed my playing career in the game I love, went on to pursue my master's degree in Business Leadership, and began my journey in college coaching.
